SOLD: Lautner's Elrod House
PALM SPRINGS, CA - The iconic, John Lautner designed home, known by many as "The Elrod House" located in the gated Palm Springs Hills enclave of Southridge has officially closed for $7,700,000, according to THEMLS.com.
"This classic estate is dripping with Hollywood history, starting with James Bond." states Josh Reef, Director of PR for the Hurwitz James Company.
James Bond's character (played by Sean Connery) in the feature film DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, was seen sneaking into the Elrod House by the curved concrete entrance. Once inside, in the same living room pictured, James Bond engaging in hand to hand combat with villains, Bambi and Thumper.
"Why are the Palm Springs Hills alive? Behind the guarded gates of Southridge, Hollywood giant, Steve McQueen's getaway is now for sale for $2.5 million. Another significant modern home, "The Cody House", designed by William Cody is under contract. Bob Hope's desert home that recently hosted a runway show for design power house Louis Vuitton is up the street. Another stunning estate behind the gates is the Edward Giddings designed fortress known as "La Piedra" which Josh Reef and I have listed for $7,288,000. And now The Elrod House has closed for $7,700,000. Here are 5 reasons why I believe the Palm Springs Hills are alive again and I could keep going." According to Will Fuller, an associate with the Hurwitz James Company.
With the successful closing of Lautner's famous Elrod House at $7,700,000, a new record setting price has been set in Palm Springs for a home that reportedly could use some TLC.
Josh Reef recalls... "As a new homeowner to the Palm Springs Hills shared with me, the story of what brought them to the Hills... They were visiting Palm Springs and they looked up and saw the Palm Springs Hills. They knew right then they had to see what was behind the gates of Southridge. Now they own an ultra modern home in arguably the most desirable community in Palm Springs."
